Devil’s Hole, pupfish Fort Knox.

Devil’s Hole is a crevice at the base of a hill a bit north and east of Ash Meadows. It’s full of water, the top of a massive plumbing system in the underlying limestone of the area. The water drains off the Spring Mountains and percolates west. There’s a small submerged shelf of rock. The Devil’s Hole pupfish (Cyprinodon diabolis) lives on the shelf.

We’ve visited Devil’s Hole several times. Here are photos from those visits. We’ve never actually seen a pupfish there because access is restricted. It’s still a very interesting place.
